Story
One hundred Demons go to Earth every 1,000 years to battle to be the king of the Makai. Each Demon has a particular element which it can control and attack with, a set of body supporting spells, and other spells (e.g. a defensive spell), all via the use of a special spell book. Each Demon needs a human partner in order to use his or her spell book, and if his or her spell book is burned, the Demon is forced to return to the Makai. The spells in each book are different for each Demon (however some demons seem to share spells). The human and their Demon gain these spells through experience. Each spell book is a different color. The last Demon standing without their book burnt is the new Demon king.
Humans cannot read the books of other Demon Teams except their own. Only the destined partner is able to read a specific spell book.

The Spellbooks
The Spellbooks, as explained in the previous post, are the Demon's 'press pass' to the human world. If that book were to get destroyed, the Demon would be eliminated from the battle, and sent back to the Demon World. After elimination, the Demon cannot return to the battle under any circumstances.
The Spellbooks are different with each Demon. No two are the same color. Each Spell Book contains different spells, though some are known to have the same. Only one human can read the Spell books, and that is the Demon's Destined partner.
The Destined partner shares the hearts wavelength with the demon. In other words, their hearts are two halves of a whole. A Demon known when they have found their destined partner because the spell book will begin to glow.
The Spellbook channels heart energy from the human partner into its pages, which is then manifested into energy within the Demon. The spellbook is the link between human and Demon. The power of the spell depends on how much emotion is put into the spell. Hatred, anger, determination, love. The stronger the emotion, the stronger the spell, despite its class. But of course, spells with a higher class will be much stronger with more Heart Energy.
Because the energy comes directly from the human, there is a limit. When the energy is consumed, the human is left completely drained, unable to even move until the energy is restored. Conservation of energy is the key to keeping the spellbooks going, and is also something that most humans don't know how to control. Knowing exactly how much energy each spell needs is key to controlling the spell books.
